Success - We all want It, but what is it?

Oct 18, 2024

Success is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean? For some, it’s about financial freedom, while for others, it might be achieving a work-life balance or making a difference to others. The thing is, success is deeply personal and it can look different for everyone.

First off, let’s talk about the traditional view of success—wealth, status, and power. Many will measure their achievements by the size of their bank account or the title on their business card. While these things can certainly reflect success, they never tell the whole story. It’s very easy to get caught up in the idea that if you’re not sitting in a shiny office or wiping your arse on £50 notes, you’re somehow falling short. But success can go far beyond these conventional metrics.

Consider what success means to you on a personal level, then tailor your business to suit that. Are you after a lifestyle that allows you to spend more time with your family? Or maybe you’re passionate about helping others and want to create a business that gives back?. These things are just as important (if not more so) than sitting on a pile of cash. When you align your image of success with your personal values, you’re more likely to find fulfillment in your achievements.

Another important aspect of success is the journey itself. It’s not just about reaching the finish line, it’s about the stuff you learn along the way. Seeing failures and setbacks as opportunities for growth can shift your perspective on what success really is. When you do this you’ll find that the path forward can become much more rewarding.

Success often involves continuous learning and self-improvement. It’s about pushing yourself to grow, expanding your knowledge and stepping outside your comfort zone. Someone pretty famous once said "If you are not growing, your dying". Making this commitment to yourself can lead to a much bigger sense of achievement than any amount of money or job title ever could.

Remember that success is not always a destination and that it’s ok for your definition of success to evolve over time. What mattered to you five years ago you may not care about today and that’s part of life. Give yourself the opportunity to redefine what success means as you grow and change.

Success is as individual as a fingerprint. Align your achievements with your values, embrace the journey, commit to yourself and allow success to evolve with you.
